Another necessary technique to practice, pruning is simply the act of cutting back the branches and trunks that grow in excess lengths and widths. This is the third most important aspect of bonsai growing since this is the only factor that keeps the bonsai in good shape and style. Yes, pruning is the process of balancing the size of your miniature tree. A bonsai that is left unpruned will grow tall, then forming a large tree, which is but beyond the concept of bonsai. So if you want to keep your plant in bonsai shape, do some cuttings or prunings at a certain period of a year. Just do this by cutting the new growths back to its original size and shape. You can do the pruning method perfectly if you know exactly the pattern of its growth. And, perhaps what’s more interesting to know about this method is that it will not only help keep your plant on its miniature form, but will also keep the leaves of your bonsai small. If after pruning, you notice your plant to appear like a shaggy dog, don’t just panic. Instead, just focus on what you should be doing. Remember that mistakes always occur, but despite this fact, your tree will still grow even better than what you may expect it to look like. |
