New to bonsai or tray planting? Wondering how you can keep your bonsai alive and healthy for years? Well, though bonsai planting and growing is a daunting task especially for the beginners, there are still a lot of solutions that you can take to make your bonsai growing project perfect. These solutions simply hold both the basic and advanced techniques involved in this horticultural hobby deemed by many as an art form. Yes, bonsai has been considered since its first introduction to Japan as a piece of art. It is considered and valued as a form of art knowing that to make a tree or plant a “bonsai”, one should be ready to exert much of his or her skills and creativity. He or she must know in the first place how to maintain the miniature form of the bonsai while keeping the sense of age and strength present. Indeed, unlike the other art forms, bonsai requires much of your time and effort. It even needs your understanding and patience as not all may persist to grow as you expect it to grow. By paying all of these aspects, you can surely create a bonsai that is not only artistic, but healthy. So, what are the basic and advanced techniques involved in tray planting? How can you make your hobby healthy and growing? As mentioned earlier, there are a number of techniques available for the bonsai beginners and masters to take in order to obtain a miniature plant that is growing beautifully and artistically. If you are a beginner on this horticultural trend, knowing each of these techniques will definitely help you become a master. So take a look at the following: #1: Positioning or Placement So you’ve purchased the bonsai you’ve long been dreaming to take. Now, start thinking about its placement. This task simply involves knowing where in your home your bonsai will thrive best, whether indoor or outdoor. Indoor bonsais are grown and marketed anywhere in Asia and the rest of world nowadays. You can find them at the local garden or nursery near you, or somewhere online. The real glitch involved here though is that some marketers label their bonsais as indoor plants regardless of their species and survival requirements. They consider the plants “indoor’ without them knowing that bonsai, regardless of species and styles, needs some light. So, instead of being kept for long hours inside a home, the bonsai should be sent out to see the sun. When thinking about positioning or placement, make sure that the moment you purchase the bonsai from somewhere, you know exactly where you need to place it. Generally, it is better for a miniature tree or plant to be placed outdoor where direct exposure to sunlight is possible. According to several experts, a bonsai will thrive healthy if it is exposed to sunlight for about 5 to 6 hours every day. This is important since the bonsai takes its food from the sun. A lack of it will destroy them, allowing them to develop problems associated with weakening of the foliage and the like. It is further important to realize that all species of bonsai lobe to stay outside especially during the warmer months. There are some plants though that can be kept inside a home for days or months. With this variation, there’s nothing best you can do then than to know first the exact sunlight requirement of your little wonder. Additional Info: In case you’ve set your bonsai against a wall, make sure that you turn it around for at least twice a month. This is needed in order to keep your bonsai in shape. Aside from that, it is a rule of thumb for every beginner not to position their pots of bonsai directly into a cemented wall especially if the area will be exposed to direct sunlight for more than an hour. If you’ll just leave your bonsai in that place, then expect its roots to break and eventually die. And, if you are living in an area near the sea, keep your bonsai protected from sea breezes as a salty air can possibly kill them. Also protect them from frost brought by winter. |
