For you to create your bonsai according to the style you think is perfect for your tree, you need some cutting and trimming tools. The most important of these tools are the shears, which just like anything on earth, come in a number of sizes and shapes. However, regardless of the style, it is important to note that shears are designed specifically for pruning bonsai. They are heavy duty, often boasting an anvil or bypass design. Its blades typically look like a parrot’s beak, while its handles are designed squeeze. There are some handles though which are crafted straight.

Below are some of the most popular forms of shears. Consider the following:

Pointed Nose Shear – Designed for cutting small roots and branches, this form is noted specifically for its pointed nose. It has a spring designed between handles for ease of use. One popular variation of this though is the one that has a slip-through looped handle.

Extended Stainless Japanese Shear – Crafted with a top quality Japanese precision, this tool is apparently made from stainless steel. It is deemed by most users as hard and anti-corrosive. It comes with an extended form, giving you the chance to position your hands even away from the bonsai branches. Such form is also what makes this tool perfect even for areas that are hard to reach.

Hand Pruning Shear – Want to eliminate branches with large diameter? If so, then the hand pruning shear can be your best weapon. This material is designed to carry multiple squeezes. It is built with a support blade that comes along with a set of action cutting blades for easy slicing. The good thing about this tool is that it doesn’t require much care, except for cleaning and sharpening.

Modern Composite Ikebana Shear – Of the shear types available on the market, this is by far the newest. Several claims have it that this is specifically designed for master bonsai pruning. It is often made from stainless steel and is built with a modern style and design. It is labeled as a composite material simply for the reason that it features composite notched handles, allowing your fingers to stay perfect in position and shape. This is designed primarily for flowering trees.

Master Japanese Shear – Another type designed for bonsai pruning and cutting, this material is often crafted from carbon steel. It is valued much for its durability, precision cutting, and comfort, then making this tool perfect for those who treat bonsai planting not just a hobby, but a serious miniature art form.
